Starting things off we need to create and register an account, which could not be any more straightforward on the DoULike site. We’re first asked to choose whether we’re male or female and if we’re looking for either a male or female. Then by adding our email address and creating a password, we can click the “Get Started” button to proceed.

Once done, we’re then brought onto the next box, which is again on their homepage. Keeping things simple, we’re required to enter our name, birthdate, and location. Annoyingly, there isn’t a quick search function for choosing a location, so to find a specific place, you’ll need to take some time to go through the long list. Countries that have sub-locations are the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, and Australia.

Clicking “finish” brought us to a new screen, where we were urged to confirm our email address. After confirming, we were then asked to “Upload a photo to get 20x more attention”, with visual guidelines of how our photo should look. Upon completing this step, we were prompted to add information about ourselves. This step includes a wide variety of categories, but thankfully they are all optional. Here are all the categories:

Do you like dating applications? If yes, DoULike has you covered. Located in the middle of their homepage, you will see they have links for their Apple and Google Play applications. Installing the free app on our android device, we checked to see if they are any noticeable differences between the desktop version and the app version of the service.

Logging into the app, we immediately saw that the layout is remarkably familiar; it’s somewhat synonymous with the Tinder dating app. Some members' photos take up most of the screen, which has an arrow to skip the member, a love heart to favourite them, or a message icon to communicate with them.

Across the bottom of the app screen there are 5 account functions: "Discover", "Match", "Subscription", "Chat", and "Profile". On the desktop version, they are located in a list format on the left hand of the screen. The only thing that's missing from the app is the "Settings" function, which is available on the Desktop version.

Men Vs Women

When creating an account on the DoULike dating site, we had an option of either choosing to be male or female, so we wanted to see if there were any differences between the two. Making an account for both males and females, we put them side by side, to see if the features were the same, any changes in pricing and if the registration process was the same.

On both accounts we noticed that the registration process was exactly the same, both required the same amount of information, and both prompted us to add optional extra information about ourselves. The report and filter functions were both the same, and most importantly the subscription packages were exactly the same including the same price.

We’re still able to register an account, like people's profiles, and send messages. But the problem is, we’re unable to read any messages that are sent back our way from any matches we make. How safe and secure is your personal information? We had a look into their Privacy Policy, which can also be found at the bottom of the DoULike.com homepage. Straight off the bat, it does have an issue, where it says "If you have any questions about our privacy practices, please refer to paragraph 13 of this Privacy Policy.", however, this must be a typo as there are only 12 paragraphs.

They have a list of clauses within the policy, and under the "Profile Information" section they do state that "both registered users and anonymous visitors" can see a member's profile information. However, they do highlight in bold: "Your email address is confidential and will not be posted by us in your profile and newsletters or shared with third parties."

Moreover, under their "How we protect your personal information" clause, they've mentioned: "In addition, we use SSL encryption in the transmission of your sensitive personal information between your system and ours, and we use firewalls to help prevent unauthorised users from gaining access to your personal information.”

Account Cancellation

Unsatisfied with the service? The site has gone about making it simple for a member to cancel their subscription and terminate their account should they decide to. Also found at the bottom of the DoULike homepage, the "User Agreement" has a list of clauses that an account would adhere to when created.

Under the "Registration and Subscription" clause they state: "If you are unhappy with any subscription fee changes you may terminate your membership by writing to us at our address listed below or sending us an email at help@doulike.com”. It is also stated under the “Term and Termination” clause that “You may terminate your membership at any time, for any reason, effective upon receipt by us of your written or email”.

Meanwhile in the account area itself, under the “Settings” section there is a tab named “Account Cancellation”, where they say the following “If you cancel your account nobody can see your photo and profile. In a month all your profile information will be deleted from our database”. It is all very well that a member's information gets removed, but after such a long period it does raise some eyebrows.

In summary, whilst the DoULike.com dating site has managed to harness its service since the birth of Facebook, it feels like it’s still stuck in the 2005 era. The site doesn’t offer anything unique to compel members to come back to the site, which may cause them to look elsewhere. This means the service may have a hard time retaining members, in the already competitive dating service market.

Granted, DoULike does have a vast database of members, so finding a match within the desktop or mobile version can be a smooth process. However, members could be faced with the reality of settling for less, since the filter feature is oversimplified, and there is no way to search for specific information on members' profiles.
